New Moon in Pisces, March 13th, 5:21am EST/2:21 am PST

Theme: New Emotional Beginning

This weekend we have a soft and magical New Moon in the sign of Pisces. This is a watery one, so we may find ourselves feeling all the feels right now. Ride the waves! Pisces asks us to dive in and feel it all. This is one of the most beautiful New Moon’s of the year, so take some time to rest and enjoy if you can.

According to the tropical astrology, we are moving into the astrological New Year when the Sun enters Aries on March 20th. The energy will shift to be much more active and extroverted. Now is the time to rest, rejuvenate and recharge if you can. It’s a great time to look back at the past 12 months since the last astro new year, and see all that’s changed, all the newness and what you’d like to leave behind.

New Moon’s are a powerful time to set intentions for the next cycle, and during this one you can use your intuition to set intentions not only for the cycle but for the new year. New Moon’s can also have us feel sleepy, agitated and needing extra sleep.

This New Moon also has some very beautiful aspects which can bring a feeling of beauty, love, pleasure and healing. This week is a great time for romance, connection and pleasure, as it’s conjunct both Venus and Neptune.

Where Venus represents love on the human level, Neptune represents love on the divine level.

We all have Pisces somewhere in our charts, and where it sits reveals both our greatest spiritual blessing in life and also the area we can get the most lost and disillusioned. The beauty of astrology is we are never stuck in either, we can work with the energies of the planets and learn how to move from the shadow side to the empowered side of each sign. Our greatest work in life is to live into the higher potentials of our birth charts.

Wherever Pisces is in our chart, shows our greatest spiritual potential. It’s the last sign of the zodiac therefore it represents the culmination of the journey and contains elements of each preceding sign. For example, if you have Pisces as the ruler of your 5th house (as all Scorpio Rising’s will) it means your greatest opportunity for spiritual bliss is in 5th house matters such as romance, children, artistry, fun and play. It’s where you reach your spiritual resting place after the journey, it’s where you can become enlightened.

On the other hand, wherever Pisces rules is where if we are in the shadow side, we can feel flighty, have addictions and can feel disillusioned and lost. For example if you have Pisces in your 10th house (as all Gemini Rising’s do),you can be a healer and reach your highest spiritual potential in the area of your career, and on the other hand you can feel lost in your career, unsure what career is best for you, or have career related addictions such as workaholism. Wherever Neptune sits in our chart has a similar effect, but is much stronger than where the sign is placed.

Addiction is often associated with neptune, because with many addictions the person is actually craving a deeper connection and oneness, to actually disappear into spirit.

This week we have a huge blessing when the Sun, Moon, Venus and Neptune all join in the sign of Pisces. Take a moment to feel how it feels for you personally. Do you feel you tend more toward the shadow Pisces or the empowered Pisces? There’s no judgement, just a chance to self observe.

This Symbolyn Card perfectly encapsulates the healing and beautiful energy of Pisces and this New Moon:

Here’s some journaling questions to ponder this New Moon:

Where in my life do I feel the most spiritually blessed?

Where in my life do I feel lost and disillusioned?

What can I do to enjoy my daily life more?

What blessings am I looking forward to?

As we come to the end of the astrological new year, what am I ready to let go of and what am I ready to call in?

Other Astrological Notes:

Mars in Gemini March 3 – April 23rd – Have you noticed a swifter, faster, more alive feeling the past week? Mars moved from the slow and fixed sign of Taurus into the quick air sign of Gemini. This transit will bring a swiftness in our mental ability and communication.

Mars Square Mercury – Mars and Mercury are good friends so this aspect can feel a bit tough on communication, but won’t be super challenging. We may find ourselves speaking fiery and having small disagreements.

Saturn Square Uranus – I’ve spoken about this a lot recently check out this article for more info.

Mars Saturn Trine – A nice soft aspect with the two malefics where they are supporting and helping each other.

What exactly is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct – meaning they are together in the same constellation in the sky.

The moon changes signs every couple of days and the sun every month or so. When the two most powerful luminaries conjunct and come together (the Divine Masculine principle represented by the Sun and divine feminine principle, represented by the Moon) it’s a powerful time to plant seeds’ that will be harvested in the full moon in a couple weeks.

It’s also when the Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) combine – and we get deep spiritual insights. The unconscious becomes conscious around the New Moon.

Farmers and gardeners who plant by the moon (biodynamic farming, and the ancients knew this of course) know to plant seeds on the New Moon – especially the first day when the moon is completely invisible.

They harvest, prune and weed during the Full Moon when the moon is bright and full.
