Full Moon in Virgo – February 27, 2021 12:17am PST

Theme: Cleansing Mind And Body

When we hear Virgo, we often think of people who are super organized and clean freaks. It’s partly true Virgoian people tend to like things organized, but Virgo is so much deeper than that! Virgo is a deeply spiritual and devotional sign that’s often misunderstood.

The ancient origin of the Virgo symbol is a virgin which represented the highest ideal of purification. It was believed a woman was most connected to god before she was introduced to sexuality. While this old view of Virgo is an outdated patriarchal ideal,  the sign still represents purity, fertility and spiritual devotion. Keywords for Virgo: purification, control, analysis, refinement.

It is also connected to the archetype of the High Priestess – one who is deeply devoted to her spiritual path and connected to esoteric wisdom. Her commitment to spiritual purity is in service and devotion to the divine. Think of Divine Mother energy. Virgo is so much more than cleanliness and rules, this sign is about cleansing and healing on a soul level to attain liberation.

This Full Moon we can use the powerful Virgo energy to cleanse and purify our own lives. We can do this in many ways – through ritual, through cleansing and detoxing our bodies, or through our minds – using trauma release techniques, breathwork and prayer. Whatever method we feel called to, there are many ways to purify our lives and bodies.

There’s no greater time to do this then within the two weeks surrounding the Virgo Full Moon.

You may feel inspired this week to clean out your home, your closets, to take a break from sugar, the news, social media. begin a new spiritual practice or build an altar. On a metaphorical level this can be a time for releasing anything holding you back, cleansing old patterns & ways of being. It’s time to cut the cords, use the energies of this Full Moon to release negative patterns you feel tired of.

For a cleansing fire burning ritual see below.

The First Saturn Square Uranus Aspect

This Full Moon is also connected to one of the biggest cosmic events of 2021 – The Saturn/Uranus Square. It occurs 3 times throughout 2021: February 17, June 14 and December 24th. This square is not to be underestimated.

If you noticed yourself feeling very off, totally confused and a little rebellious the last week or so this cosmic event may be why.

Uranus is the planet of upheaval, change and rebellion. It’s activation may have us feel like ‘Enough is Enough’ we feel tired and ready for a change. On the other hand Saturn is all about rules, regulations, structure and government. We may feel rebellion brewing inside of us to make big changes, yet the aspect to Saturn has us feel like we are trudging through mud making changes.

This may show up in world events, but could also happen on a personal level. You may feel inspired to make a big life shift, but it may feel constrained since Saturn is involved. Anyone ruled by Uranus, especially Aquarius Rising, Sun and Moon or those with strong Uranian traits will feel this transit big time.

When and if you do make big changes, make sure to look at everything thoroughly. Cross your T’s and dot your I’s. You may want to throw caution to the wind and make a massive change abruptly but Saturn encourages us to slow down and be methodical, to look at things carefully and make calculated choices and tampered risks.

These two opposing energies will be at work all year, so get used to the feeling like there’s one foot on the break and the other on the pedal. Learn to be ok in the unknown, and know that true freedom ultimately comes from within. Focus on what you can control.

Fire Burning Ceremony For Releasing

(Do this under the bright light of the moon if you can)

Prep: Have a pen, paper, glass or metal container filled with water and tweezers on hand.

  1. Cleanse and purify your space by burning rosemary, bayleaf, cedar, sage or any herbs related to your heritage.
  2. Take some time to meditate by listening to some music, using a mantra, do breathwork or a guided visualization – anything that works to get you into a meditative space. You can sit at your alter, outside or just somewhere in your home that feels good to you.
  3. Close your eyes and feel deep into your heart – don’t rush this process, really feel into it
  4. When you feel ready to write down anything in your life you feel ready to let go of. It can be names of people you want to cut chords with, patterns, old hurts. Space them out so you can cut them up to burn. You may have several listed on the page.
  5. Rip or cut up the words you wrote into separate pieces. Fold each one up individually and burn over the container of water (using the tweezers so you don’t burn your fingers)  As the burns really imagine letting it go. I’ve noticed the ones we’re the most afraid to let go of don’t burn as fast!
  6. Thank the fire for helping you let go and transmute and close the space.
  7. After you’ve done the fire burning, cleanse yourself in water  – have a bath with rose petals, salts, crystals, feel the energy of this issue, pattern, person, whatever it is really drain from your system as the water drains. You can have a simple shower instead, just envision it all draining and you starting fresh.
  8. Put on some nice fun dancey music
  9. Dance in the moonlight! Celebrate the newness you’ve created by letting go

WHAT is a FULL MOON?

A Full Moon occurs when the sun and moon are opposite each other. This creates a sense of tension. It’s when the sun shines the most light on the moon. The Sun is our conscious and the Moon is the unconscious. So it’s an ideal time to LET GO and to bring the dark into the light to be released.

Every Full Moon is a chance to look back at the intentions you planted two weeks ago during the New Moon. What were they? How have they manifested? Are you taking action toward them? Now is the time to reassess and release anything standing in the way of your hearts desires. The two weeks between the New and Full Moon is a great time for new beginnings. The two weeks after the Full Moon is time to let go.

When we plant our New Moon intentions, we can’t just plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. We need to fertilize the soul, water them, make sure they get plenty of sunlight – most importantly we need to weed and pluck out that which doesn’t serve us. The Full Moon helps us ‘pluck’ out the weeds.

When the moon is full, a light shines on the areas of our lives it’s time to release and let go.
