New Moon in Aquarius at 23º February 11, 2021 @ 11:08am PST/2:08pm EST

Theme: Collective Insight

This week not only do we have a New Moon in Aquarius, but a ‘stellium’ (when 4 or more planets are in one sign), is also occurring in Aquarius. The energy of Aquarius will be big this week! The new moon also takes place on the same day as a special Venus Jupiter Conjunction in Aquarius, a few hours before the New Moon, flavoring it with blessings and love. However, in ancient astrology Venus is an enemy to Jupiter, so it’ll be interesting to see what unfolds!

Ideally, when the two great benefics Venus and Jupiter coming into conjunction, our love lives come to the surface, and blessed new loves or a deepening in love can happen at this time. If not romantic love, we may find ourselves feeling optimistic or just generally good around this time.

Jupiter brings blessings to our money, enjoyment, love and pleasures. In the sign of Aquarius the new blessings may feel unique, unusual or totally unexpected.

Along with Jupiter, Venus, the Sun and Moon – Mercury and Saturn are also in the sign of Aquarius, for a total of 6 planets. To understand the impact of such a condensed planetary energy on our lives this month, we need to look into the air sign of Aquarius deeper.

Aquarius is a sign of contradiction. On the one hand it’s ruled by Saturn in ancient astrology, the disciplined ‘lord of karma’ that is much like a father in it’s approach, reserved, old school thinking. On the other hand, in modern astrology it’s ruled by Uranus – a planet about upheaval, rebelliousness and sudden reversals and changes.

The energy of Aquarius, and around this New Moon is much the same. There’s a sense of having a foot on the brake and the pedal at the same time. We may feel an intense drive to move forward as a collective, to innovate and break new ground.

Aquarius asks us to rebel, to make changes, to do the unexpected – and yet it has us stop and consider our actions thoroughly and to be slow and methodical. Aquarius rules the collective and humanity at the highest level. All these planets together have a message for the collective. With this much energy here it’s clear big changes are about to take place.

It also rules the 11th house, the house of media and social media, the greater network, the internet, news, our wider social circle and acquaintances. We may see something happen in these areas over the coming weeks (depending where Aquarius is in your chart).

Aquarius is an air sign, quick, fast and mind based. It often gets confused as a water sign because it’s symbol is a water bearer. The symbolism of the water bearer explains the archetype of Aquarius.

In ancient mythology the constellation of Aquarius is described as a man holding a vase with water pouring out. In Hindi, Aquarius is called Kumbha which translates to ‘water pitcher’.

In astrology water represents emotion and feeling. The water signs tend to be the big feelers, whereas an air sign like Aquarius would be seen more as a thinker.

Aquarius is very collective focused, whereas it’s opposite sign (which shows the seed for Aquarius’s expansion) is in Leo – a sign more concerned about self. Aquarius carries and the emotions of others, it’s mostly concerned with the collective.

Focusing too much on the collective and the concerns of humanity is dangerous, just as too much self focus is dangerous. The lesson of the Leo/Aquarius axis is to balance healthily in the middle. To care for others and self equally.

This new moon asks you to set your intentions when it comes to the collective.

Journalling Prompts:

What do you envision the world to look like in the future?

What changes do you want to see?

What needs to take place for this vision to come to fruition?

How can you make these changes in your own life?

For example if you wish for a world where people all get along, in what ways do you not get along with others in your own life?

Are you focused too intensely on the concerns of the collective in detriment to your own life?

This many planets in an air sign can also create a ton of mental overload, overthinking and communication challenges. You may want to talk more than usual, have a sharp mind, get lots of emails and texts and feel very mentally stimulated over the next few weeks.

The impact of a New Moon, especially one with this much concentrated energy lasts until the next New Moon – an entire 28 day lunar cycle. The seeds and intentions you plant during this New Moon will sprout over the coming weeks.

Note: It’s best not to take any action on your intentions until the New Moon is visible again a few days after the New Moon.

Who this New Moon impacts the most:

  • Aquarius Sun, Moon and Rising
  • Cancer Sun, Moon and Rising
  • Leo Sun, Moon and Rising

Other important astrological notes:

Mercury Retrograde – Ends on February 23

Retrogrades impact each person differently depending on your own personal chart and the condition of Mercury there. Some people thrive in retrogrades! Feel into it for yourself.

Uranus Saturn Square – February 17th, June 14th, December 24

This is the first of 3 very challenging and intense aspects. This will bring about similar themes as the Aquarius New Moon, one foot on the break, one on the pedal. Unexpected events happening to and with the collective. There will be rebellion (Uranus) against authority and forms of control (Saturn).

Venus, The Sun, Moon and Mercury are all in Square to Mars on this New Moon – February 11

Mars is the warrior planet, and the planet of war. These squares can create tension, aggravation and unexplained fierceness.

What exactly is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct – meaning they are together in the same constellation in the sky.

The moon changes signs every couple of days and the sun every month or so. When the two most powerful luminaries conjunct and come together (the Divine Masculine principle represented by the Sun and divine feminine principle, represented by the Moon) it’s a powerful time to plant seeds’ that will be harvested in the full moon in a couple weeks.

It’s also when the Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) combine – and we get deep spiritual insights. The unconscious becomes conscious around the New Moon.

Farmers and gardeners who plant by the moon (biodynamic farming, and the ancients knew this of course) know to plant seeds on the New Moon – especially the first day when the moon is completely invisible.

They harvest, prune and weed during the Full Moon when the moon is bright and full.
