Theme: Speak From The Heart

This year has been filled with intense astrological aspects and energies. This New Moon is one of the only lighter ones this year, so make some time for enjoyment and pleasure if you can.

Leo rules the 5th house – the house of fun, play, romance, creative expression and children. We should seek to enjoy the days before and after the New Moon as a much more challenging alignment begins later in the week.

The New Moon also conjuncts Mercury – the planet of communication, so everything involving speech and communication will be highlighted this week. It’s also a good time to speak the truth from your heart and in a lighthearted way.

Later in the week, the energy will shift and the two malefics will be in hard aspect to each other. Mars will square Saturn a few days after the New Moon, creating frustrations, impatience and delays. Be careful what you say to others as martian energy is amplified right now in the world. Fights, frustrations and arguments can occur on both a personal and global level.

The lesson of this New Moon is to connect to your heart and communicate from there, rather than from the aggressive or spiteful place the Mars Saturn square may temp us with.

Leo is connected to the Strength Card in Tarot. In the traditional tarot, the image is of a woman is taming a lion by gently holding its mouth open. She shows how to use gentleness and divine connection as a way to tame our inner beast.

Pleasure, fun and enjoyment are another way we can balance out all the heaviness we’ve been facing.

Now is the best time to have new conversations with ourselves and others from a loving place. To communicate your truth to others in a soft way from the heart.

There’s a time and place to be bold and communicate fiercely – now is the time to try another way. It’s a rough out there, time to be gentle on ourselves and others 🙂

New Moon Contemplations:

What can I do for fun and enjoyment this week?

What message(s) do I have for someone (or myself)?

How can I share this message with love and care?

New Moon in Leo Ritual

  1. Cleanse and purify your space by burning rosemary, bayleaf, cedar, sage or any herbs related to your heritage.
  2. Sit quietly in meditation for 10-15mins, or do the Rising Woman Inner Child Meditation (download available in the RW bio).
  3. Ask yourself the New Moon contemplations or simply “What intentions can I set for this lunar cycle?”
  4. Write down images, ideas and clarity that comes through.
  5. Pull tarot or oracle cards asking “What can help me achieve these intentions?”
  6. Close your ritual space with prayer, gratitude, whatever has you feel complete.
  7. Note – don’t take actions on your intentions until the Moon is visible again 2-3 days after the New Moon.

What exactly is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct – meaning they are together in the same constellation in the sky.

The moon changes signs every couple of days and the sun every month or so. When the two most powerful luminaries conjunct and come together (the Divine Masculine principle represented by the Sun and divine feminine principle, represented by the Moon) it’s a powerful time to plant seeds’ that will be harvested in the full moon in a couple weeks.

It’s also when the Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) combine – and we get deep spiritual insights. The unconscious becomes conscious around the New Moon.

Farmers and gardeners who plant by the moon (biodynamic farming, and the ancients knew this of course) know to plant seeds on the New Moon – especially the first day when the moon is completely invisible.

They harvest, prune and weed during the Full Moon when the moon is bright and full.
