Full Moon in Aquarius – August 3 @ 8:59am PT ~ Theme: The Individual vs The Collective

Full Moon at 11° of Aquarius – August 3 @ 8:59am PT

Theme: The Individual vs The Collective

The Sun entered it’s home sign of Leo on August 1st, bringing with it a fresh and optimistic outlook. Today the Full Moon occurs in the opposite sign of Aquarius, a colder more aloof placement. We may feel a strong push-pull energy this Full Moon.

This Full Moon highlights themes associated with the Leo/Aquarius axis. (The zodiac axis’s are Cancer/Capricorn, Leo/Aquarius, Scorpio/Taurus, Gemini/Sagittarius, Virgo/Pisces, Aries/Libra.)

Axis points are important to understand as they represent opposing energies that also compliment each other. Leo and Aquarius are very different, yet they contain seeds of the other. Much like a ying and yang symbol.

The Leo/Aquarius axis is all about the Individual and the Collective, the Self and the Whole, The Personal Ego and Humanity, the Inner work and the Outer work.

Leo energy is connected to the Sun, so it’s warm, Aquarius is connected to Saturn so it’s more cold and distant. Leo is all about self and marching to our own drummer, whereas Aquarius is all about the collective, the world and humanity.

On the shadow side, Leo represents selfishness, arrogance and greed, and Aquarius represents martyrdom and controlling others.

Each of the 12 zodiac signs exists within each of us, and represent lessons we’re learning in this life. Even if we have no Leo or Aquarius placements in our natal charts, we can learn from the lessons these two signs teach.

With every sign axis, the highest exemplification of the signs is to balance and integrate both within us. To take what the Buddhists call “The Middle Way.”

This Full Moon, we must ask ourselves – how can we balance the needs and desires of the collective, of humanity and balance it with our own individual wants and desires? How can we do both our inner personal work, and outer collective work at the same time?

We can’t just focus on one or the other, the time is now to balance both.

This week we may face the concept of the Individual and the Collective on a bigger scale and issues related to this may come to light. The global pandemic has brought the collective to light bigger than anything else we’ve faced, and as individuals we’ve had to look at our impact on the collective, and the collective’s impact on us.

As with any Full Moon, the Sun and Moon oppose each other. Very often around a Full Moon anything which has been unconscious to us comes to light. The Sun is shining fully on the moon and brightening it, we may feel ‘loony’ – derived from the word lunar, lunatic – as our ‘shadow’ selves come to light.

Simultaneously this Full Moon is in a Square aspect to Uranus. Squares are challenging aspects. Uranus is the planet of freedom, so we may feel challenges related to collective freedom. We may feel stuck, confined and unable to make changes. We may want to fight against the needs of the collective.

Uranus goes retrograde this month on August 15th – another indication that the sense of confinement or losing freedom may occur – either literally or metaphorically. We can experience inner and outer restriction.

We also have the planet Mars Squaring Saturn Pluto and Jupiter at the end of August. This is a POWERFUL square which can lead to a lot of inner and outer tension, battles and wars.

All of these powerful energies have a purpose – to stir the pot and unearth anything we’ve not wanted to look at within us and in our world. The breakdown of systems and structures which are no longer working This process has been occurring since Pluto/Saturn conjoined in January and will continue to the end of the year.

Full Moon Ritual – best done under the bright light of the moon

  1. Have a pen and paper handy
  2. Take some time to meditate by listening to some music, using a mantra, anything that works to get you into a meditative space
  3. Close your eyes and feel deep into your heart – don’t rush this process, really feel into it
  4. When you feel ready to write down one area or specific thing (or person) in your life it’s time to let go of (ideally related to where the full moon is happening in your chart, see your Rising Sign above).
  5. Have a container of water nearby, and burn the piece of paper (use tweezers to hold it without burning your fingertips). As it burns really imagine letting it go.
  6. After you’ve let it go, cleanse – bath with rose petals, salts, crystals, feel the energy of this issue, pattern, person, whatever it is really drain from your system as the water drains.
  7. Put on some nice fun dancey music
  8. Dance in the moonlight!
  9. Pull some tarot or oracle cards for advice for the next month until the next full moon (‘What do I need to know about the next month?’)

WHAT is a FULL MOON?

A Full Moon occurs when the sun and moon are opposite each other. This creates a sense of tension. It’s when the sun shines the most light on the moon. The Sun is our conscious and the Moon is the unconscious. Si it’s an ideal time to LET GO and to bring the dark into the light to be released.

Every Full Moon is a chance to look back at the intentions you planted two weeks ago during the New Moon. What were they? How have they manifested? Are you taking action toward them? Now is the time to reassess and release anything standing in the way of your hearts desires. The two weeks between the New and Full Moon is a great time for new beginnings. The two weeks after the Full Moon is time to let go.

When we plant our New Moon intentions, we can’t just plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. We need to fertilize the soul, water them, make sure they get plenty of sunlight – most importantly we need to weed and pluck out that which doesn’t serve us. The Full Moon helps us ‘pluck’ out the weeds.

When the moon is full, a light shines on the areas of our lives it’s time to release and let go.
