New Moon in Cancer 28° July 20, 2020 at 10:33am PT ~ Theme: Follow Your Heart

New Moon at 28° of Cancer on Monday July 20, 2020 at 10:33am PT

This week we have a more mellow New Moon in the sign of Cancer. We may start to feel a bit of calm after the stormy summer eclipses that brought about big life changes for many of us. We are officially out of the eclipse season, though the effects can be felt for many months.

This is the second Cancer New Moon this summer, so Cancerian themes are very important right now. Cancer rules the 4th house – the house of the Heart. Now more than ever, we can learn from the lessons of the heart.

This New Moon is also in an opposition to Saturn in Capricorn – once again highlighting the Capricorn/Cancer axis. This axis has been highlighted so many times in the last couple years.

The theme of this axis is to balance career, ambition, being out there in the world, climbing the ladder, the father, masculine, achievement (Capricorn) and internal processing, home life and tending to your heart, the mother, feminine (Cancer). These themes will play out in an amplified way this week.

I highly suggest spending time really connecting to your heart this week and creating a ritual around it. Use the Cancer New Moon energy to set your intentions with how you want to live life moving forward from a heart-centered place. With a positive Trine aspect to Neptune we can feel especially connected to spirit and able to access our higher selves.

However, with the New Moon in opposition to Saturn, we can also feel some sadness and emotional strife this week under the surface.

Ultimately we’re being asked to mature and take ownership over our relationships with our own hearts and emotions. We are being asked to look at our hearts and listen to what it’s saying and to follow the guidance – and no longer just follow our minds.

While we can feel an inner heaviness with the opposition to Saturn, the purpose is for us to mature and grow in this area. It’s time to connect with our own hearts and create a safe and healthy place within. A beautiful sacred place we can go anytime to connect.

It’s important now more than ever to take the time to create this inner space as a refuge.

What exactly is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct – meaning they are together in the same constellation in the sky.

The moon changes signs every couple of days and the sun every month or so. When the two most powerful luminaries conjunct and come together (the Divine Masculine principle represented by the Sun and divine feminine principle, represented by the Moon) it’s a powerful time to plant seeds’ that will be harvested in the full moon in a couple weeks.

It’s also when the Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) combine – and we get deep spiritual insights. The unconscious becomes conscious around the New Moon.

Farmers and gardeners who plant by the moon (biodynamic farming, and the ancients knew this of course) know to plant seeds on the New Moon – especially the first day when the moon is completely invisible.

They harvest, prune and weed during the Full Moon when the moon is bright and full.

New Moon Ritual

  1. Smudge, sage, cleanse and purify the space
  2. Sit quietly in meditation (10-15mins min)
  3. Ask yourself “what do I want to create this moon cycle?”
  4. Listen carefully to your heart
  5. Write down images, ideas and clarity that comes through
  6. Pull tarot cards asking “What can help me achieve these intentions?”
  7. Close your ritual space with prayer, gratitude, whatever has you feel complete
  8. Note – don’t take actions on your intentions until the Moon is visible again 2-3 days after the New Moon
