New Moon in Capricorn at 23° January 12, 2021, 9pm PST/12am EST

Theme: Intense Transformation

This week we have a precarious New Moon in the sign of Capricorn. There’s many challenging aspects to this New Moon and cosmic events surrounding it. The New Moon is in close conjunction to Pluto, the planet of transformation.

When the Moon is conjunct Pluto, we can expect intensity. Pluto is lord of the underworld and also connected to collective trauma. In the empowered frequency Pluto is a powerful planet that shows us where we need to transform our lives, our views and our minds. In the shadow frequency it represents power hungriness, pain and fear.

If you’ve felt overly emotional this week, have been crying for no reason, feeling a lot – know this is natural when Pluto conjuncts a dark moon (when the moon is invisible).

We may want to withdraw to be with our intense feelings. Trust what your body and soul feels called to do this week. These big energies can cause sleepiness, weepiness and wild dreams.

It’s ok to be tired, is ok to be moody. What if we just let ourselves be and feel?

Simultaneously, this New Moon occurs when Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are all in square to Uranus and Mars. Uranus is the planet of upheaval, rebellion and radical change. Mars is the planet of the warrior, it’s hot, fast and forceful. These big squares will be felt this week, and will amp up in February when Saturn and Uranus square for close to a year.

We may experience big inner and outer tension this week depending on our own personal charts placements. (Reminder – No one experiences transits the same, our charts and how the transiting planets effect them are very unique).

In general, Our motto this week is to ‘expect the unexpected’. Luckily this New Moon is sextile (positive aspect) to Neptune, the planet that’s a higher octave of Venus and in it’s empowered frequency is all about divine love. Through all the intensity, spiritual love still reigns supreme! Keep connected to your spiritual practices this week to anchor you.

To understand how to best handle the complex energy of this New moon, we can look learn from the traits of Capricorn.

Capricorn is symbolized by a sea-goat. It’s a mythical creature whose top is goat and the bottom is a fish fin. This is a creature that has two seemingly opposite expressions. One that climbs and one that swims.

The sea-goat reminds us to be steadfast, to climb like a goat and at the same time go with the flow of life and stay connected to the divine. When we get to this point of balance, we are meeting the sweet spot of Capricorn.

We can’t control life, we can do our best, but destiny will always play out as it needs to.

This week is a good time to set your intentions of what you want to create in a tangible and practical way… while leaving room to go with the flow and welcome in the unknown.

Be like the sea goat, climb toward what you want, but keep one foot in the magic of life as it unfolds.

Because there’s so many planets in the mix this week, almost all signs will be impacted. The most prominent impact will be on:

  • Capricorn Sun, Moon, Rising
  • Aquarius Sun, Moon, Rising
  • Scorpio Sun, Moon, Rising
  • Aries Sun, Moon, Rising

What exactly is a New Moon?

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are Conjunct – meaning they are together in the same constellation in the sky.

The moon changes signs every couple of days and the sun every month or so. When the two most powerful luminaries conjunct and come together (the Divine Masculine principle represented by the Sun and divine feminine principle, represented by the Moon) it’s a powerful time to plant seeds’ that will be harvested in the full moon in a couple weeks.

It’s also when the Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) combine – and we get deep spiritual insights. The unconscious becomes conscious around the New Moon.

Farmers and gardeners who plant by the moon (biodynamic farming, and the ancients knew this of course) know to plant seeds on the New Moon – especially the first day when the moon is completely invisible.

They harvest, prune and weed during the Full Moon when the moon is bright and full.
