Full Moon in Cancer December 29th, 2020 at 7:28pm PST
Theme: Honoring The Divine Mother
On Tuesday we have a soft and gentle Full Moon in the sign of Cancer. In astrology, Cancer is the sign that rules the 4th house – the house that represents the Heart. Now more than ever, we can learn from the lessons of the heart.
Cancer is connected to the archetype of the Divine Mother. Our mothers are our first heart, and the first heartbeat we experience – they are our first love. A Cancer Full Moon reminds us of The Mother Archetype within all of us, and asks us to on this role for ourselves, and nurture ourselves in a healthy way.
Each zodiac sign has an empowered and a shadow frequency. When in a healthy empowered state, Cancer energy exudes nurturance, love, care, compassion and is connected to self and others.
The Shadow or disempowered side of Cancer is to be a martyr – to over give, over function and caretake others at the expense of ourselves. This week themes associated with the Divine Mother archetype can be highlighted and illuminated by the light of this Full Moon.
We may see clearly the ways this archetype plays out within us. Do we tend to over give and over function? Or are we able to hold our centers and nurture others while caring for ourselves also?
This full moon ask yourself: How can I best nurture and mother myself right now?
A Full Moon enhances and amplifies within us what we feel on a daily basis, even if the feelings are repressed. It brings the unconscious to the conscious. Anything we’ve not allowed ourselves to feel can come to light during a Full Moon. If we are happy, the full moon amplifies that. If we are tired, the moon amplifies it, if we are angry, the moon amplifies the anger.
A Cancer Full Moon is the best time for it all the emotions to come up and be released. Since we are so close to the end of the year, and the end of the Lunar month, we can transmute and work through the watery energy this week with a fire burning ceremony.
Fire Burning Ceremony For Releasing
(Do this under the bright light of the moon if you can)
Prep: Have a pen, paper, glass or metal container filled with water and tweezers on hand.
- Cleanse and purify your space by burning rosemary, bayleaf, cedar, sage or any herbs related to your heritage.
- Take some time to meditate by listening to some music, using a mantra, do breathwork or a guided visualization – anything that works to get you into a meditative space. You can sit at your alter, outside or just somewhere in your home that feels good to you.
- Close your eyes and feel deep into your heart – don’t rush this process, really feel into it
- When you feel ready to write down anything in your life you feel ready to let go of. It can be names of people you want to cut chords with, patterns, old hurts. Space them out so you can cut them up to burn. You may have several listed on the page.
- Rip or cut up the words you wrote into separate pieces. Fold each one up individually and burn over the container of water (using the tweezers so you don’t burn your fingers) As the burns really imagine letting it go. I’ve noticed the ones we’re the most afraid to let go of don’t burn as fast!
- Thank the fire for helping you let go and transmute and close the space.
- After you’ve done the fire burning, cleanse yourself in water – have a bath with rose petals, salts, crystals, feel the energy of this issue, pattern, person, whatever it is really drain from your system as the water drains. You can have a simple shower instead, just envision it all draining and you starting fresh.
- Put on some nice fun dancey music
- Dance in the moonlight! Celebrate the newness you’ve created by letting go

WHAT is a FULL MOON?
A Full Moon occurs when the sun and moon are opposite each other. This creates a sense of tension. It’s when the sun shines the most light on the moon. The Sun is our conscious and the Moon is the unconscious. So it’s an ideal time to LET GO and to bring the dark into the light to be released.
Every Full Moon is a chance to look back at the intentions you planted two weeks ago during the New Moon. What were they? How have they manifested? Are you taking action toward them? Now is the time to reassess and release anything standing in the way of your hearts desires. The two weeks between the New and Full Moon is a great time for new beginnings. The two weeks after the Full Moon is time to let go.
When we plant our New Moon intentions, we can’t just plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. We need to fertilize the soul, water them, make sure they get plenty of sunlight – most importantly we need to weed and pluck out that which doesn’t serve us. The Full Moon helps us ‘pluck’ out the weeds.
When the moon is full, a light shines on the areas of our lives it’s time to release and let go.
