New Moon Total Solar Eclipse at 23° of Sagittarius

December 14, 2020 @ 8:17am PST

This week we welcome a Total Solar New Moon Eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius (Sidereal Scorpio). This is the final Eclipse of 2020 and highlights the Sagittarius/Gemini axis once again. Many positive aspects to this Eclipse can bring freshness, magic, laughter, play and enjoyable communication.

A total Solar eclipse is super powerful and signals endings and beginnings – either literal or figurative – depending if you have Sagittarius or Gemini placements or if the eclipses touch a personal point in your chart. The effects of an eclipse can occur for up to 6 months, or until the next eclipse cycle.

Not everyone feels eclipses the same – everything in astrology depends on the interplay with your personal chart. However, some general themes related to Sagittarius/Gemini will be prominent this year, and especially this month for all of us.

We have three eclipses on this axis in 2021, so we are here to learn the lessons these two signs bring and integrate them within us.

Both Sagittarius and Gemini are mutable signs, meaning they are ever moving and changing. Mutable energy is chaotic, changeable and flexible in mind and thinking.

Eclipses carry an energy of instability too similar to mutable energy, so the days around an eclipse can feel unnerving, chaotic and exciting – depending if you’re comfortable with the ever changing vibe. It’s normal to feel confused, ungrounded and mentally agitated around eclipse time.

Feel into the energy for yourself, how does this particular eclipse feel for you? Does it feel exciting or unnerving? A combo of both? Or are you comfortable with the unpredictability?

The South Node is also currently in Sagittarius where it’ll stay for another year. Whenever the South Node (Ketu) is what we need to overcome and master in life, it’s also what drains us. When the nodes made this switch (in May 2020) there was a required shift from Sagittarius themes into Gemini themes since Gemini is the opposite sign and where the North Node currently is.

Gemini is all about local life, your community, siblings, close friends, relatives, colleagues, everything and everyone close to you. Ruled by Mercury, it’s also about the mind and communication.

With the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius (for the next year), it’s important for us to focus on the embodiment of Gemini and to keep building our local life, enhancing our mind and developing communication skills.

Sagittarius on the other hand, is always looking for the next adventure on a quest to find meaning. The energy of Sagittarius is high right now, and many of us are looking for our next adventure – either inwardly or outwardly!

The mastery of the Sagittarius/Gemini axis is to balance the need for adventure with a deepened connection to our local community and roots.

As always, Eclipses are not the best time to start new things, sign contracts, start relationships etc., It’s an ideal time to meditate, contemplate and watch your thoughts. In some astrological schools of thought what you’re thinking about in the days around an eclipse will set the tone of your life for the next cycle!

Here’s some good questions to ask yourself this eclipse:

How can I be lighter and enjoy life more?

How can I bring humor to my life?

Are there things I need to communicate and haven’t yet?

What can I enjoy about my local community and life at this time?

The Solar Eclipse Will impact these signs the most – and anyone who has planets within 3° of the eclipse point (Between 20-26 of Sag):

  • Gemini Sun, Moon, Rising, North Node (Rahu) and South Node (Ketu)
  • Sagittarius Sun, Moon, Rising, North Node (Rahu) and South Node (Ketu)
  • Cancer Sun, Moon, Rising
