Theme: Finding Balance Between Career And Home Life
by Andrea Dupuis
In the depth of the winter darkness, just a few days after the winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere, we have a sweet Full Moon in the sign of Cancer.
This Full Moon is also referred to as the “Cold Moon” as it takes place at the depths of darkness, our shortest days and coldest days of the year. This is a time of deep reflection, no matter where on earth we live. It’s an opportune time to take stock of the previous 12 months and look forward to what we want to create next year.
It’s our time to incubate and plan our next course of action as the Sun begins its return.
We may feel compelled to spend a lot more time at home in a deep yin state. To rest, recharge, be with our close family and spend time reassessing our lives. Christmas is a very outgoing time, yet we may feel the opposite pull with the Cancer Full Moon… to be in our homes, cozy and not out in the world.
During the next month, but most prominently around the Full Moon – themes related to the axis of Capricorn/Cancer can come up strongly for us. Whenever we have a Full Moon there’s two signs highlighted, not just the one where the Full Moon is taking place – since a Full Moon is when the Sun and Moon are in direct opposition.
The two signs on an axis represent an opposite, yet complimentary energy. With each axis, the lesson is to understand each sign fully, embody it and then find a sweet spot of balance between the two…
The theme of the Capricorn/Cancer axis is about creating balance between career, ambition, being out there in the world, climbing the ladder, the father, masculine, achievement (Capricorn) and internal processing, home life and tending to our hearts, the feminine (Cancer).
The movement of the Sun into Capricorn last week highlights the ways we make money, our work in the world, our public image and our ambition. With a Full Moon here in Capricorns opposite sign of Cancer – we are asked to take a deeper look at our work in the world and ask ourselves some tough questions.
- Is my work in the world fulfilling my heart?
- Where is my heart leading me in terms of my career and purpose or home and family?
- Where can I apply Capricorn practicality to my decisions?
- How can I balance my mind and heart when it comes to my career or family life?
The axis isn’t about running from one extreme to the other – giving it all up and living just from the heart, or the reverse, letting the heart go and just focusing on practically. This axis is about integrating the two sides – the heart and the mind – and using both to guide our paths.
During the next month with the Sun in Capricorn, we may have to face questions about our work and what it is we are here to do in a material world sense.
These questions may have us come face to face with some truths about what we do career/purpose wise that could shift the course of our lives. Big career changes will happen for many of us, especially as Pluto leaves Capricorn and moves into Aquarius January to September 2024.
This is a time where we will be pushed to make big changes to the ways we do things – both personally and globally. We will need to be innovative and seek new and cutting edge solutions to our own and the world’s issues. Those with Aquarius Sun, Moon and Rising will be feeling this especially strongly at this time and will experience big and profound changes next year. Capricorns will breathe a sigh of relief as Pluto exits their sign – there may be a gift or a change as it makes its way out though!
Not only is it a Full Moon and the Solstice, it’s also our beloved Jesus’s birthday (though there’s many arguments for him being born in the spring, that’s a convo for another time). Either way, this is a sacred time to celebrate the birth of God’s son, a powerful visionary, healer and spiritual teacher – no matter what our spiritual beliefs are.
Jesus is a great example of the Capricorn nature – the sea goat – reaching for the highest heights, while keeping a connection to the spiritual world (with the tail always dipped into the spiritual waters).
He preached the word of God in a loving, yet very practical way. He was very ambitious and committed to spreading the word, yet he nurtured and loved those who he came in contact with. He exemplifies the highest integration of the Capricorn/Cancer Axis. Highly recommend the series “The Chosen” to learn more about this man and what he brought to the earth.
We are also blessed this week with the Sun being in a good aspect to Jupiter – so among the pull to be internal, our moods can be generally good and optimistic.
