Saturn Retrograde in Pisces
June 17th until November 4th, 2023

You and Saturn Retrograde
Saturn, the stern parental planet of tough love & big life lessons, karma, restriction and boundaries went retrograde at 7° of Pisces on the 17th of June and won’t go direct until Saturday 4th Nov 00:02am PT. Saturn’s placement within our chart is so pivotal because it speaks to where we take responsibility in life and have a desire to get serious.
So what does this retrograde mean for us astrologically?
It may feel a little tough at times because Saturn is a malefic but there’s so much beauty and medicine and magic in retrogrades. They provide a chance for inner work. And Saturn, in the long run, just wants us to grow, stay the course and achieve the things we’ve promised ourselves that we would. During a retrograde, the energy of a planet is stalled from proceeding in the standard forwards motion and is turned inwards.
This provides the collective with a chance to pause, reflect and take stock. We get to reevaluate the planet’s energy and the area where it activates our chart via transit. Saturn transits are slow, so unlike Mercury, its story and personal impact on us takes time to unfold. This gives rise to a steady period of deep learning, growth and development if we work with the energy.
How to work with the retrograde
This is an exciting retrograde because stern Saturn is sitting in the soft, mutable waters of Pisces. Only happening once every 29 ½ years, a lot of the energy at play will be working on a subconscious level.
And where Saturn is concerned with boundaries, Pisces wants to exist unbound, free flowing and dreamy. So be a little easier on yourself when it comes to how you pursue goals and slip into a more malleable mindset. Open up to amending the path you’re following to achieve the dreams that you hold dear.
Of course, there’s give and take, because whilst Pisces is getting Saturn to loosen up, Saturn wants you to take authority. You can do this by getting friendly with the word no. Sweet, loving Pisces wants to say yes to everyone and everything – especially at the Libran 7°point (with this, we’re doubling down on compassion) but this can leave us feeling depleted. Employing Saturnian vibes and saying no when and where necessary can be oh so good for the soul. Through this we gain the confidence to place healthy boundaries with others where we need them.
Equity is high on the agenda too. Saturn represents the foundation and structure of society and Pisces is one of the most humanitarian of signs, so this placement wants to build the world as more empathetic and level. Until Saturn moves into Aries in February ‘26 this will be a continuing theme. Now is the time for us to collectively question whether the structures that uphold society are right and if not, arm ourselves with the information that’ll help us affect change within the status quo. Get curious about how people outside of your world live, dive deep and learn. Be an ally to those who need it.
Saturn is where we also set our personal standards. Pisces wants to hold every view as valid with unending compassion for every story. Whilst altruistic, in shadow this can overload us with the opinions of others, leaving us unclear as to what beliefs are ours to hold onto. If you’re feeling this, utilize the retrograde. Spend time tuning into your inner guide. What viewpoints and opinions genuinely land in your body? If they’re not yours to hold, let them fall away. Trust your intuition during this transit.
Pisces is a spiritually healing sign, so spend time contemplating what spirituality means to you. Try turning a practical lens on spiritual rituals by embracing things like EFT or sound healing. Keep a dream journal and connect to your subconscious. Make a loving promise to continue with the practices that feel good and grounding for you.
Saturn’s energy can be tough but Pisces calls for softness. When it comes to perfectionism and getting things right, let go a little and trust in your process. And be kind to yourself. Don’t be afraid to retreat and spend time just being instead of doing.
