Theme: Set a New Course for Your Life

by Andrea Dupuis

While last month was more intense on a spiritual level you can expect this New Moon to occur on a more mental level. It’ll bring more communication, mental downloads, chattiness and saying what needs to be said. You can receive more texts, have big conversations, receive emails, phone calls, hear news, and gain mental clarity.

It may feel more chaotic and busy than usual so make sure to ground yourself by putting your bare feet on the earth and tending to your body.

Gemini is a dual sign, and the word Gemini literally means ‘twins’ in Latin. It’s named after Castor and Pollux, twin demi-gods in Greek mythology. They were responsible for bringing favorable winds for shipwrecked sailors who made sacrifices to them.

This New Moon asks you to set your intentions of what you’d like to shift in your life. What “favorable wind” would you like to come your way? We can use this Gemini New Moon to set a new course for ourselves.

Once you’re clear what changes you’d like to create in your life, you have to overcome the dilemma of Gemini. The two sides of ourselves have to come together and make a choice. Life is a series of choices we make, and Gemini helps us get really clear on those.

Gemini is connected to The Lovers card in Tarot and represents choices… the man and the women depicted on the card represent the two sides of oneself, the two halves of a whole person. Our inner man and inner woman, our left and right brains, our yin and yang.

One side of us tends to make choices logically, the other intuitively. The Lovers Card asks us to bring both of these sides of ourselves together to make choices and change in our life. We can just depend on one or the other – they need to work in unison within us to create our life. They must come into unity and work together.

Mercury is also in its home sign of Gemini, giving the theme of communication even more of a boost. If you’ve been holding anything back now is the time to speak it! Write, speak, write a letter, write a poem, journal. The Gemini New Moon is also a great time for setting intentions around what you want to communicate and to whom. Lots of deep and interesting conversations can happen now, along with communication from many people.

New Moon Contemplations:

What is your equivalent to a ‘favorable wind’? (the positive change you’d like to see in your life)

What choices can you make to create the life and outcomes you desire?

How can you lean more into your logical mind and combine it with your intuition to create the life you desire?

We also have Saturn turning Retrograde in the sign of Pisces on the same day as this New Moon.

When a planet goes retrograde it means it stops moving forward and appears to be going backward. We feel the effects of retrogrades differently depending on our own personal chart placements. You can learn your personal chart placements in my course, Become Your Own Astrologer.

Retrograde effects aren’t the same across the board, though similar themes will be experienced for all of us.  You may have noticed we don’t all experience Mercury Retrograde – the most common, occurring three times per year – in the same way.

While some of us experience issues with communication and technology, many of us find it a very enjoyable time with enhanced communication and lightness!

How you’re impacted depends on your personal planetary configurations. We are not all the same in how we experience big planetary transits. There’s no hard and fast rules or agreement among astrologers about what retrograde planets mean. There’s a lot of variance in viewpoints across systems.

In Vedic astrology, when the malefics go retrograde (Saturn, Mars and Pluto – in modern astrology) the effects are less harsh.

So this Saturn retrograde could actually soften the impacts of this harder planet. We may get a break in the area of our charts Saturn is. Where in your chart is Saturn? Learn to read your own chart here.

Whereas in Western Astrology retrogrades are more seen as a time to go back and make revisions. To re-asses and where the planet isn’t being very helpful.

One thing for sure, a retrograde planet is not operating in their natural forward way so it’s a time of great change and revision.
