Theme: Standing Between the Old and the New

On July 3rd, in the Northern hemisphere, we are graced with an ambitious first full lunation of the Summer, a Super Moon in the sign of Capricorn. As the Moon basks in the Sun’s rays we open our hearts to receive her wisdom and lessons, with greatly magnified perception.

When the Sun is in the watery sign of Cancer, the Moon will be full in the opposite earth sign of Capricorn. These cardinal signs mark the beginning of a season and the start of something new.

The Sun in Cancer is reminding us of what we need in terms of emotional security. It is shining a light on the practical measures we can put in place to create a solid structure within which to surrender and soften into. The balance of water and earth. Most importantly, the Sun is shining a light on what is no longer working for us, so that we can release and let go.

This is an important Full Moon because the Lunar Nodes will be changing signs on July 18th, closing an 18-year karmic cycle, as the nodes move into Aries and Libra.

We are officially standing between the old and the new. So, then, what is the ‘new’ that we are building for the long-term?

The Capricorn goat is no ordinary mountain goat. Look closely at the symbol for this earth sign, and you will see that it has a tail – a kind of cross between a fish and a serpent. A sea-goat. Our goat – hard working and ambitious – is also, in its heart, a seeker after the mysteries of both the earth and of the ocean depths. Capricorn, ultimately, is the sign of self-mastery, motivated by its intentions.

For us to climb and master (Capricorn), then we must put down roots. The deep, winding roots of our lineage, of our ancestry (Cancer). The safety of a family and our home allows us to step out into the world from a solid and concrete foundation.

Can we, therefore, examine where we may be out of balance?

Are you so busy “bossing” life that you have forgotten where it is that you came from? Neglecting family matters or denying your roots, your inner values.

Or, conversely, does the world feel so big that you would rather stay at home in comfy slippers and eating chocolate, where it feels safe, rather than risk going out to build a legacy, to achieve something and to take responsibility?

When the Sun shines all of his glory upon the face of the Moon, it illuminates and reveals all of her being, allowing us to see clearly that which was not obvious before.

With these opposing forces at play, you may feel pulled in two different directions. Capricorn is the adult and Cancer is the child. Capricorn is the vessel and Cancer is the liquid. Capricorn is masculine structure and Cancer is feminine feeling.

The Full Moon is asking us to find the sweet spot in-between, balancing the opposing forces. We are in Cancer season, so listen to those whispers and gentle nudges from your intuitive soul. The Capricorn energy will provide the oomph and the ambition to take strategic, aligned action. You will be feeling more determined than ever to get the job done.

Pluto and Mercury are also involved in this lunation, highlighting our inner power and our ability to express our emotional needs.

Full Moon Journalling:

Gently examine the structures in your life.

What do you need to feel secure enough to thrive?

Is your “vessel” supporting the new that you are building, or is some clearing out required?

What goals, plans and intentions are being set to attain what you want to achieve for the next half of the year?

Full Moon Ritual Bath for The Capricorn Full Moon

In honor of connecting with the water element and the magical side of Capricorn, it’s a great time to do a water releasing ritual. This is one that I love to do on The Full Moon as a practice of getting into my body and allowing water to help me release. Full Moon’s are the best time to release.

  • Fill a bucket or bowl with fresh water (filtered if possible) or fill your bathtub up with water
  • Add whatever you like – crystals, flowers, rose water, herbs, essential oils, epsom salts – anything that feels good to you
  • If you’re using a bucket or bowel, use a cloth to wash yourself, as you do, imagine yourself releasing anything you’re ready to let go of. Ask the power of the moon to support you as you release it
  • If you’re in the bath do the same, wash yourself and imagine anything you’re ready to release wash down the drain
  • Take your time and really enjoy this, be present with yourself, speak words of love and care to yourself and your body
  • Afterward, use lotion, oil or something soothing and put all over your body

WHAT is a FULL MOON?

A Full Moon occurs when the sun and moon are opposite each other. This creates a sense of tension. It’s when the sun shines the most light on the moon. The Sun is our conscious and the Moon is the unconscious. So it’s an ideal time to LET GO and to bring the dark into the light to be released.

Every Full Moon is a chance to look back at the intentions you planted two weeks ago during the New Moon. What were they? How have they manifested? Are you taking action toward them? Now is the time to reassess and release anything standing in the way of your hearts desires. The two weeks between the New and Full Moon is a great time for new beginnings. The two weeks after the Full Moon is time to let go.

When we plant our New Moon intentions, we can’t just plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. We need to fertilize the soul, water them, make sure they get plenty of sunlight – most importantly we need to weed and pluck out that which doesn’t serve us. The Full Moon helps us ‘pluck’ out the weeds.

When the moon is full, a light shines on the areas of our lives it’s time to release and let go.
