New Moon at 19º of Cancer ~ July 9, 2021

Theme: The Spiritual Heart

By Andrea Dupuis

The upcoming New Moon takes place in the sign of Cancer, the sign that naturally rules the 4th house – the house of the heart and home.

This week themes related to the heart can come up. We may feel sensitive, emotional, watery, and feel more slow and introverted than normal.

If we feel the need to tend to ourselves emotionally and take time out, trust that’s a natural part of this New Moon.

Overall the theme of this week is about love and relationships and how we can nourish ourselves while being in connection with those around us. What do we need to take good care of our hearts?

This New Moon is in a positive Trine aspect to Neptune, a planet that’s the higher octave of Venus. A planet that’s connected to spiritual love and divine union, not just romantic union but a love deeper than that. It’s all about cosmic love.

We may connect deeper with others this New Moon, or meet new people whom we experience a soul connection with, and generally feel deep love within ourselves.

The shadow side of this New Moon is without that deep connection we can feel sad, emotional and shut down. We may feel more alone and left out in the cold.

Now’s a good time to connect with those closest to us, our families, friends and nurture our hearts no matter what our relationship status is.

If that’s not enough we also have Venus and Mars conjunct – again bringing the heart and relationships to the forefront of our lives.

While we have this soft, gentle and emotional Cancer energy happening, we are also gearing up for a hot and fiery Leo season on July 22nd.

The Venus and Mars conjunction happening in Leo July 12th and 13th is giving us a taste of what Leo season will feel like. We can feel more intensity in our love lives, passionate, fiery sexual energy as the two planets connect.

Venus is the planet of love and pleasure, Mars is the planet of sex and passion. Together they create a powerful combination for love and excitement.

This energy will feel so much different than the slow and introverted Cancerian energy of this New Moon, so enjoy it while you can 😉

Contemplations for this New Moon:

What is good for my heart?

What can I do to nourish my heart?

How can I bring more enjoyment to my love life?

New Moon’s are all about setting our intentions for the next lunar cycle (until the Full Moon).

Journaling: What do you want to create in your relationships? What would feel good for your heart? Ask yourselves those questions and let the answers come gently. Take a paper and a pen and free flow write without stopping. You may surprise yourself as you get all your emotions out on paper!

New Moon in Cancer Ritual

By Andrea Dupuis

  1. Cleanse and purify your space by burning rosemary, bayleaf, cedar, sage or any herbs related to your heritage.
  2. Sit quietly in meditation for 10-15mins, or do the Rising Woman Inner Child Meditation (download available in the RW bio).
  3. Ask yourself the New Moon contemplations or simply “What intentions can I set for this lunar cycle?”
  4. Write down images, ideas and clarity that comes through.
  5. Pull tarot or oracle cards asking “What can help me achieve these intentions?”
  6. Close your ritual space with prayer, gratitude, whatever has you feel complete.
  7. Note – don’t take actions on your intentions until the Moon is visible again 2-3 days after the New Moon.

Theme: Emergence

By Guest Astrologer Dawn M. Harrison (WildWitchAstrology.com)

The Moon has joined the Sun in Cancer, kicking off another 29-day journey of self-discovery, and the word that keeps playing over, and over, and over again in my mind, is the word – Emergence.

New Moons are about new beginnings – a time when everything within us and around us is energetically beginning again. They occur when the Moon has reached a place in its cycle where it is between the Earth and the Sun, and thus, its shadow side faces the Earth.  They represent the beginning of a month-long cycle where we are learning certain lessons and rediscovering certain aspects of ourselves.

As the Moon continues on its month-long journey around the Earth, we see more and more if its surface illuminated by the Sun, representing the facets of our lives that are also being illuminated.  Midway through its cycle, the Moon is directly opposite the Sun and is considered “Full”, at which point its fully illuminated surface begins to gradually decrease in reflective light, as it begins its journey back home to the Sun.

The sign that the New Moon is “seeded” in gives us clues to the themes of this month’s cycle and is, in fact, our primary “way finder” for the next four weeks. You can think of it as the Cosmic Finger of the Universe, pointing our way home.

This month’s New Moon kicks off in the sign of Cancer – the sign of the Cosmic Mother, the Sacred Womb, and the Great Holder of Life. The sign of Cancer is about “home”, true “family”, emotional security, and the bonds that sustain us.

She’s the part of you who knows that everything must be nurtured “in here” before it can emerge “out there”. When I think of the sign of Cancer, I always think of the amniotic fluid within the womb… It’s the substance that sustains life, that feeds it, and that gives it everything that it needs, so that – when the time is right – it can emerge fully formed – in strength and in power.

This is one of the themes of this month – remembering the part of you who nurtures, sustains, and protects, so that something in your life can emerge… and so that, that “something” can emerge in strength and in power.

The New Moon occurs at 18 degrees of Cancer – forming a collaborative sextile to the planet Uranus (the Great Awakener), a supportive trine to the planet Neptune (Keeper of our Dreams),  and a challenging opposition to the planet Pluto (Lord of No-Going-Back Transformation).

Translation: it’s time to push the envelope of your previous definitions of “home”, “safety”, “security”, and “nurturance”… because the way you feed, sustain, and support yourself – physically, psychologically, and spiritually – must change as you change, and must change as your world changes.

Look to the place in your natal chart that houses 18 degrees of Cancer for clues as to where this month’s themes have their starting point, and where they may be the most salient.  To feel into this New Moon, perhaps begin by asking yourself:

What areas of my life, and my world, am I being called to nurture, sustain, and protect?

Where is there an “emergence” happening in my life that calls for me to cultivate an energetic “womb space” that will allow for proper growth and development?

And, what aspects of my current status quo must be challenged in order to allow for this growth to occur?

Energetic Shifts Following Today’s New Moon

As you move through this month’s cycle, feel into the energetic shifts that are here to support you and to mark the milestones of this month’s journey. Here are some of the major Cosmic shifts that will be occurring between today’s New Moon in Cancer, and our Full Moon in Aquarius on 7/23. For New Moon horoscopes for each sign, scroll down and see below.

  • On 7/9, our New Moon kicks off in the sign of Cancer, reminding us all that nurturing on the inside is a prerequisite for emerging on the outside. The next 72 hours are prime for setting intentions related to establishing foundations to meet your internal security needs and nurturing the areas of your life, and your world, that have been crying out for some TLC.
  • On 7/11, Mercury (the planet of Communication and Perception) moves into the sign of Cancer, deepening our ability to self-reflect and deepening our ability to bond and connect with others through our words and our thoughts.
  • On 7/13, Venus (Goddess of Love) and Mars (the Lord of Passion) form an energetic conjunction in the flames of Leo, signifying a creative new birth for all of us… surely marking a significant sign-post in this month’s theme of emergence.
  • On 7/17, our Moon reaches Her First Quarter phase, in the sign of Libra (the sign of Justice and the Balancing Scales). This is the first turning point in our cycle, challenging us all to consider where we must make adjustments in our boundaries, in order to maintain our sense of inner alignment and safe-guard the relationships that support us and nourish us.
  • On 7/21, Venus enters Virgo, reminding us all that in order for our relationships to thrive, they must be tended to… they must be valued, in both the “big” ways and the “little” ways. First and foremost, this begins with the ways that we value ourselves.
  • On 7/22, the Sun enters Leo, heralding a time when everything that we have been nurturing, feeding, and sustaining during Cancer season emerges into Leo’s realm -to be seen, to be celebrated, and to shine.
  • And, on 7/23, our Moon reaches its fullness in the sign of Aquarius – illuminating where, and how, we are being called to celebrate our unique gifts, emerge from the crowd, and release the layers of shame that may have been dimming our light.
