Full Moon in Pisces

September 20, 7:55pm ET, 4:55pm PT

Theme: Spiritual Cleansing

By: Andrea Dupuis

This Monday we have a watery and spiritual Full Moon in the sign of Pisces. Pisces naturally rules the 12th house called a “Moksha” or “Enlightenment ” house in Vedic astrology. This house represents themes related to our spirituality, dream world and intuition.

Neptune (the modern ruler of Pisces) is in close proximity to the Full Moon this week, so you can expect to receive spiritual healing in your dreams, emotions, even through your visions and fantasies. Listen for clear messages, they usually drop in neutral and factual, like a quiet knowing. You may hear messages in song lyrics, see synchronicity, notice more omens or just feel a general sense of magic around.

The veil to the spirit world is especially thin right now, so pay attention!

During this Full Moon, it could rain more than usual. Spend as much time as you can in water. Sit near a river or lake, dip in the ocean, and remember to hydrate yourself. Take a cleansing ritual bath, wash your hair intentionally, and partake in any water related rituals.

Spending time near water can help balance out the intense fire energy from the Sun coming close to conjunct with Mars. Mars is a hot, fiery, fast and sometimes aggressive planet. When it comes close to the Sun, Mars energy can be amplified as the Sun acts as an amplification of any planets near it.

We may see more aggression, fights and inner and outer wars as this conjunction comes closer in early October when it goes behind the Sun. (It won’t fully appear again to the naked eye until late November.)

The soft and gentle Full Moon in Pisces is strongly juxtaposing this Mars/Sun transit. We may find ourselves bouncing between two different energies this week…

One related to our spiritual lives, the soft, compassionate and lovely Piscean nature, and the other intense and fierce warrior-like Mars energy. We may bounce between these two poles internally and see behaviors like this externally.

This juxtaposition leads us to understand that above all else our enlightenment, our spiritual knowledge and understanding cannot be taken away. No matter how challenging things seem, or how full of Mars energy the world becomes, Pisces teaches us that our spiritual lives are just as important as our material lives.

We usually come to this understanding once we make peace with the shadow side of the 12th house – this house represents loss, isolation and trauma and pain. Once we work through the shadow side of the sign, we more deeply understand the empowered side of the sign and house.

We realize that Love – in the unconditional sense – is what we’re here to give and experience here on earth. Almost every spiritual teaching ancient and modern leads us to this understanding. Tune into the Piscean divine love this week and let it nourish you.

Pisces Full Moon Ritual Bath

In honor of connecting with the water element, it’s a great time to do a water releasing ritual. This is one that I love to do on The Full Moon as a practice of getting into my body and allowing water to help me release. Full Moon’s are the best time to release.

  • Fill a bucket or bowl with fresh water (filtered if possible) or fill your bathtub up with water
  • Add whatever you like – crystals, flowers, rose water, herbs, essential oils, epsom salts – anything that feels good to you
  • If you’re using a bucket or bowel, use a cloth to wash yourself, as you do, imagine yourself releasing anything you’re ready to let go of. Ask the power of the moon to support you as you release it
  • If you’re in the bath do the same, wash yourself and imagine anything you’re ready to release wash down the drain
  • Take your time and really enjoy this, be present with yourself, speak words of love and care to yourself and your body
  • Afterward, use lotion, oil or something soothing and put all over your body.
  • Dance in the moonlight!
