Theme: Letting Ourselves Shine
by Andrea Dupuis
This week with the Full Moon in Leo, we can see the ways we’ve held ourselves back from really shining outward, from stepping up into our throne and owning who we are. Leo beckons us to believe in ourselves and to take center stage in our lives. Many of us tend toward hiding in the background to make others comfortable, or are scared to put ourselves out there. We can use the power and energy of Leo this week to really claim who we are and allow ourselves to be seen (if we so desire).
Don’t be surprised if you start to see ways you hold yourself back this week, as the Sun (what’s conscious) is shining on the Moon (our unconscious). We may see ourselves in a brand new way.
The Sun is in Aquarius, the sign opposite Leo. This axis is all about balancing the needs of others with our own selfish wants and desires. Where some of us tend toward focusing our energy and time on the collective, others tend toward self focus. The highest exemplification of the Leo/Aquarius axis is to balance ourselves beautifully in the centre – caring for both the good of ourselves and the benefit of others.
Leo is connected to the archetype of the King or Queen. These archetypes are about confidence, grace, strength and being a star. Wherever Leo sits in our chart is the area we can shine the brightest and ‘rule’ the kingdom. It’s where we own our king/queen nature and can inspire others with our bravery, courage and confidence. It’s the area of life we can really pour our hearts into and see massive results. On the flip side, it’s the area of life where we also can become self centred, arrogant and prideful.
This Full Moon will also impact our relationships as there’s a strong hard square aspect between Mars and Venus. Venus is the planet of love, but more-so the romantic kind of love we see in the movies. With a hard aspect to Mars we may experience more fighting with partners, ending of relationships or endings of our challenges with our love patterns. Tempers can right high this weekend, so watch out for quarrels and take the high road where you can.
The good news is a Full Moon brings everything unseen into light, so we can use this time to expose our underlying patterns deeper and bring them up to clear. It’s like a tilling of the soil – if we don’t bring it up how could it clear?
The Sun represents the outer self and the conscious and the Moon represents the inner self and the unconscious. During a Full Moon the Sun shines on the Moon and reveals everything in our unconscious – for better or for worse. Some people find Full Moon energy exhilarating, while others will feel down and have challenges. So much depends on what’s going on in our unconscious and in our charts. We highly recommend you learn to read your own chart to understand how each Full Moon impacts you uniquely.
This Full Moon is also in a hard square aspect to the planet Uranus – the planet of change, unexpected events and upheaval. In a literal sense this Full Moon could bring a big and sudden change to someone who’s a ‘king’ or ‘queen’ on the collective scale. For us personally we can see very sudden and unexpected reversals in our lives.
Full Moon Self Reflection Journaling Prompts:
Where in my life am I dimming myself? (ex. Not allowing myself to be seen on social media, not letting myself be the star in my career, hiding out in my relationships)
Where do I want to shine and be seen in my life?
How can I step even more into the Queen or King archetype?
Learning to read your own chart is super powerful as we can learn so much about ourselves by understanding our own personal placements. It’s a great tool for self understanding and acceptance. (To look up where Leo is in your chart, follow the instructions below)

Full Moon Ritual
(best done under the bright light of the moon)
- Cleanse your space using smoke cleansing or crystals (try to use herbs from your heritage such as cedar or rosemary). Have a pen and paper handy to write notes.
- Take some time to meditate by listening to some music, using a mantra, anything that works to get you into a meditative space
- Close your eyes and feel deep into your heart – don’t rush this process, really feel into it
- When you feel ready to write down one area or specific thing (or person) in your life it’s time to let go of (ideally related to where the full moon is happening in your chart, see your Rising Sign above).
- Have a container of water nearby, and burn the piece of paper (use tweezers to hold it without burning your fingertips). As it burns really imagine letting it go.
- After you’ve let it go, cleanse – bath with rose petals, salts, crystals, feel the energy of this issue, pattern, person, whatever it is really drain from your system as the water drains.
- Put on some nice fun dancey music
- Dance in the moonlight!
- Pull some tarot or oracle cards for advice for the next month until the next full moon (‘What do I need to know about the next month?’)
