On April 8, a rare total solar eclipse in Aries will darken the sky across North America. For many of us, this cosmic event will signify a monumental shift in how we express ourselves by inviting us to establish our own rules and finally start living by them.

Explosive pressure is about to force us out of the old paradigm and into a new one as we are called to speak honestly, say what we want, and take risks that lead to personal growth.

In ancient times, solar eclipses were feared and shrouded in superstition—each culture had its own myths, but all stories speak of a supernatural being devouring the sun. When the light disappeared, the energy was thought to become chaotic and unpredictable—anything could happen.

These powerful new moons are still associated with sudden shifts and unexpected events that bring about dramatic beginnings and endings.

Eclipses also activate the North and South Nodes—invisible points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Earth’s path around the Sun. In astrology, the nodes are considered points of destiny and represent where we are going (North Node) and what we must leave behind (South Node) in this lifetime.

The nodes occupy opposing zodiac signs (sister signs) for approximately 1.5 years. As each zodiacal axis becomes activated, we are confronted with challenges and experiences designed to restore balance in this area of our lives and help us move forward on our respective journeys.

Although we are moving through these lessons the entire time the nodes are in a sign, eclipses amplify and speed up the process, providing valuable opportunities to realign with our path.

This eclipse represents the halfway mark or climax of the Aries/Libra cycle that began last April and will conclude in March 2025—this is when we may start to see the results of earlier choices and a culmination of previous events—it is the point of no return.

The Aries/Libra axis is all about balancing our personal interests, desires, and goals with those of others. At this stage, it should be more apparent where we betray ourselves to keep the peace or compromise our values to maintain our relationships. Now, we are being asked to communicate these insights and assert ourselves in healthy ways—to become the leader and authority of our own lives.

Aries’s archetype is the Warrior, and this eclipse cycle puts us in the uncomfortable position of fighting for what we want. Sometimes, this means pushing back against oppressive forces and other times, it means turning your back on one opportunity in favour of another.

While all eclipses are potent, this one is unique for several reasons. First, it will occur at 19° of Aries—the Sun’s exact degree of exaltation. The Sun is at its most powerful here, giving us a sense of optimism and courage as we navigate the more challenging aspects at play. If ever there was a time to leap over your shadow, this is it. And our shadows will undoubtedly be front and center, as the eclipse will also be in a conjunction with Chiron.

Chiron represents a core wound stemming from our earliest experiences. In Aries, this is related to our confidence and self-expression. Not everyone will experience this the same way—it depends on your Aries house, but generally speaking, it may present as a lack of faith in yourself, feeling like you need approval or permission from others before making a decision, or a fear of being seen and exposing yourself to failure and criticism.

Aries also rules boundaries, self-interest, and anger. If we have always allowed others to make decisions for us or struggled to speak up for ourselves, this could be the time when the pot boils over, and long-standing issues come to a head.

Part of the work of this eclipse is understanding that until we communicate our needs and set boundaries, we will continue to be held hostage by the whims of others.

Anger exposes us to attack or abandonment, and the idea of this keeps many of us paralyzed and silent. If you were punished as a child for disagreeing with your family’s wishes or shamed for your opinions and interests, it can be difficult as an adult to say what you want or even express a preference.

Chiron transits bring our emotional scars to the surface to be witnessed and healed, so a significant element of this eclipse will involve bravely moving through triggers and deciding that we will no longer allow our insecurities to hold us back.

Due to Mercury’s influence (which is currently retrograde in Aries), many of us will feel called to have important conversations and get things off our chests. However, there are other ways to live out your truth…

There are times when we should share our plans and others when it is more beneficial to keep them to ourselves, especially if the response could expose us to danger or weaken our resolve. If your communication is motivated by a desire for reassurance or validation, it might be better to stay silent.

New opportunities may also be characteristic of this time—doors may open unexpectedly, or you may receive insights that give you a glimpse into what is possible in the future. Relationships will also figure prominently and could go through beginnings and endings. With this eclipse, our eyes are wide open, and it is no longer possible to pretend you’re happy if you are not.

If you’ve recently been given a taste of what you want most, it will be incredibly challenging to return to your old life without a crisis.

You can no longer settle for less when you know what is possible.

And that’s where risk and fighting for your life come in. We cannot reach that dream in the distance without entering uncharted territory—you can make plans from within the castle’s safety, but to do something requires going beyond its walls.

Obstacles and challenges are an inherent part of life, but when it comes to the story of the Aries/Libra eclipses, the worst is almost over as we step into a new beginning characterized by authenticity and courage.

It is time to commit to living by your internal compass and reclaim your power and place in the world.

Eclipse season will continue for two weeks following the Aries new moon.
