New Moon in Aquarius

This week we have a New Moon in the sign of Aquarius. Often confused as a water sign, the iconic image of Aquarius is shown as a person holding a large basin of water and pouring it out.
This image represents the energy of this New Moon and Aquarius itself. Those with Aquarius placements understand how much they carry for the collective on an emotional level.
They are the ones who are always taking on the feelings of others, and at times need to ‘pour it out’. For many these feelings aren’t even their own. Aquarius can be concerned with the collective at the detriment of itself. They can’t always distinguish what is theirs and others.
This week we may all have to release and let go of that which isn’t ours… to start fresh on an emotional level…
We may feel the need for a deep cathartic release of anything that’s felt pent up from January. It may be time to metaphorically ‘pour out our basin’. This emotional release can help us make space to dream up new goals and visions for our future. And under an Aquarius New Moon, we’re likely to receive insight into the unique gifts we have to share with the world.
There are several important aspects occurring around this New Moon that will also impact it. Beginning in January we had Pluto enter Aquarius and stir things up. It brought massive transformation for many on both the internal and external level. January was likely an intense month for many people.
In the week following the New Moon we have Pluto making conjunctions to both Mars (Feb 13) and then Venus (Feb 16) followed by a Venus and Mars conjunction on Feb 22.
These two planets represent our Masculine (Mars) and Feminine (Venus) energies. Pluto represents death and rebirth – so we may experience some shifts, changes and transformations in the areas connected to how we integrate our masculine and feminine energies… and how the two interplay in our lives.
This can show up as deep and profound transformations in our romantic relationships, especially for Scorpio Sun, Moon and Rising (as you are ruled by Pluto). This can mean the breaking of long standing patterns – they can suddenly transform for the better.
Or if we’ve been spending too much time in the extremes of either our Masculine or Feminine energy and feeling burnt out, we can now come into a balance energetically.
This New Moon also has a prominent challenging aspect. The Moon is Square Uranus. A Square creates tension and conflict.
When Uranus and the Moon Square you may experience sudden emotional outbursts, chaotic feelings and events that feel out of hand. This energy is not much different than we feel during eclipses. The motto is ‘expect the unexpected’. Relax and ride the waves.
Because this New Moon is happening at 28°, the Cancer Degree, we can feel more sensitive, emotional and sentimental than usual. Let the tears come!

New Moon Intention Setting Ritual
- Cleanse and purify your space by burning rosemary, bayleaf, cedar, sage or any herbs related to your heritage.
- Sit quietly in meditation for 10-15mins, or do the Rising Woman Inner Child Meditation (download available in the RW bio).
- Ask yourself the New Moon contemplations or simply “What intentions do I have for this lunar cycle (30 days)?”
- Write down images, ideas and clarity that comes through.
- Pull tarot or oracle cards asking “What can help me achieve these intentions?”
- Close your ritual space with prayer, gratitude, whatever has you feel complete.
- Note – don’t take actions on your intentions until the Moon is visible again 2-3 days after the New Moon.
