July brings astrological seismic shifts, starting with a new eclipse cycle.
On July 17th, the North and South Nodes will ingress into new signs, for the first time since October 2022. The North Node will explode into Aries as the South Node elegantly slides into Libra.
The Nodes act as hosts for the eclipses, and together they form a powerful axis that becomes highly charged and transformative during eclipse season. Eclipses shift the light in the sky, so too shifting the light within.
Change is on the horizon.
The Nodes spend about 18 months in each sign and take 18.5 years to complete a full cycle. The last time the Nodes were in Aries and Libra was 2004-2006.
How do events back then mirror what’s happening in your life now?
On a collective level, the Aries Libra axis will reveal the themes and lessons that we will embrace and release for our evolutionary growth between now and January 2025. If your Sun, Moon, or Rising signs are in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, then you may experience changes on a more personal level.
What are the Nodes?
The North and South Node, also known as the Lunar Nodes, or the Moon’s Nodes, are not actual planets. You cannot view them in the same way that we can glimpse Venus or Mars. They are mathematical points in the solar system; the intersection between the orbit of the Moon around the Earth and the orbit of the Earth around the Sun, known as the ecliptic. Unlike the other planets in the birth chart, the Lunar Nodes shift backwards.
The Nodes represent karmic points of fate in astrology and function like a polarity, indicating where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. Polarity being the complementary forces that work together to create harmony and balance.
The North Node, often referred to as the Dragon’s head or Rahu, represents collective growth and fulfilment and is the direction within which our soul is ushered forward. It is unfamiliar territory that feels foreign and totally unnerving but that our soul has a deep and sacred yearning for.
The South Node, often referred to as the Dragon’s tail or Ketu, represents where our soul has been. It is a familiar place, full of behaviours and habits that feel very comfortable. If you believe in past lives, it represents the karma you bring with you into this lifetime.
The Lunar Nodes act like magnets and have a fated quality, attracting people and objects into our lives. Situations are created in our lives to balance the opposites of two sides, ultimately with the intention of bringing our soul equilibrium and the opportunity for evolutionary growth.
Both the North and the South Nodes have plenty to teach us. When we get lost, we can use the Nodes to help us get back on track, much like a cosmic GPS.
As the Nodes move backwards through the zodiac, a story plays out in reverse. Each sign leads into the other, developing through the archetypes, revealing what we need to know in retrospect, and where new points of view are called forward.
The Aries Libra Axis
This season’s opponents are Aries and Libra; they are in a playful dance between individuality and partnership, on the axis of relationships.
The Aries Libra axis is ruled by Mars and Venus respectively. They are the quintessential definition of opposites attracting. The basic nature of this axis concerns the Self and its projection out into the world, and the adjustments that are made when relating to other people.
Courageous and energetic, Aries is the Warrior. Aries is here to get the job done first and ask questions after. It is hard for Aries to understand compromise and cooperation. Most Aries will begin at the point of “me” or “I” to identify their role in their environment. Aries takes the lead, is independent and self-focused.
Libra on the other hand is about “we” and “ours”. Graceful and diplomatic, the archetype associated with Libra is the Lover and Partner. Libra is about balance and harmony, and never wants to leave anyone out. The path of relationship asks us to constantly balance the wants of Self and the wants of the other, and to learn to handle the ups and downs of being in partnership. Ultimately to balance the challenges and the blessings.
With the South Node in Libra, this about letting go, but it is also a place of integration of the talents and gifts that we bring to make the North Node more effective. Part of the healing journey is to integrate the shadow and to embody the empowered side of each sign. This is the gift of archetypes: to allow us momentary detachment from our individuality, in order to see ourselves more clearly.

Transits
Pluto (the planet of transformation, death and rebirth) will continue to square the Nodes for the duration of this year, and will be exact on 28th July. This will create a powerful tension between our need for transformation and our fear of the unknown. Pluto’s energy strips everything back, forcing our hand to face our shadow and confront our deepest fears. This exposure is necessary to heal generational wounds, lead us through the challenges, and growth opportunities necessary, in order to fulfil our soul’s purpose.
Venus, the ruler of Libra, will also retrograde this month. An important shift for all of us, compelling us to reexamine and revaluate how Venus impacts our lives in relationships, creative expression, beauty, diplomacy and finances. Emphasising the theme of personal relationships and letting go of dysfunctional patterns of relating and situations that no longer serve us and keep us from finding our true balance.
Summary
The next 18 months offers us the opportunity to identify and release past conditioning and step into self sovereignty. There is no need to rush, for it is a very fine balance that is taking place within relationships.
Will you resist the call of your soul and cling to your old habits and behaviours? Or will you embrace the power of transformation and let go of what no longer serves you?
Aries brings us the courage needed to do this work. When you are honest, you give others the opportunity to open their hearts to you. Venus brings us the tenderness and the grace to support. How comfortable are you with your own vulnerability?
Have the conversations. Take the risks. Step into love. As you do so, you increase the healing vibration of love in your own life and on the planet.
As always, cosmic awareness brings us the opportunity for conscious choices but never supersedes free will and intuitive direction.
