Subthemes for February 2024:
- Surrendering to unexpected change
- Reflecting on the past to co-create a better future
- Embracing and cultivating authenticity, personal power, and freedom
February is shaping up to be an exciting month astrologically as three personal planets (Mercury, Mars, and Venus) are about to form conjunctions with Pluto on their way into Aquarius…
These conjunctions will usher in a period of great change and invite us to reflect on our relationship to uncertainty as we examine how unconscious fears affect the way we communicate, approach relationships, and take action.
During this time, unexpected shifts may stretch the boundaries of our comfort zone and force us to confront limiting beliefs that stem from our past experiences.
Mars and Pluto only meet up once every two or three years so this transit will be significant for many. Buried tensions may surface and the role of power and control in our lives will be front and center. Certain situations may start to feel too restrictive and you might find that you are craving more freedom.
We will be challenged to honour others’ independence and avoid trying to control their actions to get our way. This is a good time to engage in shadow work by observing how you typically react to triggering situations.
- Ask yourself, what is it about this person or situation that is causing such a strong reaction?
- Can I relate this to something that happened in the past?
- What did that version of me need most at that time, and how can I give it to myself right now?
Venus enters the fray three days later, shifting the transformative focus to our relationships. Hidden desires may feel closer to the surface now, and you may crave more depth and intimacy.
Get to the bottom of anything that has been swept under the rug and speak honestly about your needs and how you want to be loved. Issues around jealousy and codependency will factor in as we explore what it means to be independent within a partnership.
When we release our grip and allow people to move away from us, we see them in new and unexpected ways—like viewing a stranger from across a crowded room. A little distance can infuse stagnant connections with new life.
- If you’re in a relationship, how can you cultivate more independence?
- Can you deepen your connection by consciously creating opportunities to get to know your partner again?
- How do you respond to feeling restricted—do you become avoidant or rebel against constraint?
The Sun, Mercury, and the Moon will also be squaring Uranus in Taurus at the beginning of the month. After five months in retrograde, Uranus stationed direct at the end of January and is ready to shake things up. Squares create tension between incompatible energy and draw our attention to what needs to change.
Any aspect involving Uranus can be a little unpredictable, and you may find that unexpected developments force you to release deeply held attachments. Letting go of something we’ve invested a lot of ourselves in can be an uncomfortable process—it feels like a part of us is dying.
Such events humble us and break us down so that we can see what we’re truly made of. They provide the type of clarity that only comes after profound chaos—once everything is stripped away, we are able to identify what is most important.
As this process unfolds, it will be important to remember that overthinking and trying to control a situation will not make it less painful. Think of it like using a map versus a compass in dense fog—the map represents your rational brain, while the compass is your inner knowing.
During times of chaos and disruption when external forces make us feel helpless and the outcome is unknown, we can always rely on our inner compass to guide us through the storm.
Although Pluto and Uranus transits seem intimidating, they are always working for our highest good. When we work with this energy instead of against it, we see change as positive and release what is no longer serving us so that we can recognize new opportunities when they appear.
All of the planets are now direct and will stay that way until April 1, so the energy is picking up speed. Change can feel deeply uncomfortable and overwhelming for many of us—even if it’s taking us toward something we’ve wanted for a long time.
Be gentle with yourself this month. Trust that whatever leaves was never meant to stay and something better is coming to take its place.
