A Duality Between Rebellion & Restoration

On August 9, 2025, the sky lights up with an Aquarius‑ruled Full Moon where the culmination of light and shadow ushers us into a rebellious awakening. It is particularly activating the tension between our personal shine and our feeling of collective belonging.

Beneath this lunar canopy, six key astral bodies continue to move in retrograde (Chiron, Neptune, Saturn, Pluto, Mercury, and Pallas). It’s like the cosmos is holding a neon sign beckoning us to slow our pace and consciously step out of the cycles of urgency, external performance, and expectation.

We are being asked to return to the internal sacred rhythm that life asks us to live from most naturally.

Slowing our pace doesn’t just mean resting more (though that may be part of it). It means choosing presence. It means noticing where we’re running ahead of ourselves, whether emotionally, spiritually, or even relationally. It means gently inviting ourselves back into the moment.

It’s the act of pausing long enough to actually feel, rather than ignore.

When we feel what’s been buried, we make space for the parts of us that have been neglected, shamed, or silenced. These might be old wounds, unlived dreams, grief we told ourselves was too much to carry, or anger that was never safe to name.

Retrogrades often stir these layers, not to overwhelm us, but to invite reintegration, and to feel something by honouring the reflection we face.

Themes for the Aquarius Full Moon:

Awakening the Rebel & the Sage: The Full Moon in Aquarius exposes the electric pulse of rebellion. In this moment, we may feel the push‑pull of desiring freedom versus longing for belonging, of feeling devotion while claiming autonomy, of caring deeply while refusing to lose ourselves. We are called to hold complexity, to honour all parts of ourselves, and to remember that we are more than a singular role in this life, we are wild, devoted, sovereign, and interconnected.

Healing through Sovereign Ritual: We are being called to nurture our internal landscape with grace, to tend to emotional roots without suffocation, and to bury what has rotted, so that new blossoms can emerge. We are invited to cleanse out shame, codependency, self-abandonment, or emotional toxins that have kept us from embodied trust. We are being gifted insight into how to navigate the tension between independence and devotion, how to reimagine our boundaries, and how to act from inner knowing.

Seeing the Shadow, Embracing the Light: With all of the retrograde energy, combined with this Full Moon, we are collectively in internal alignment mode. We are asked to reevaluate, recalibrate, and reclaim the truth of who we are.

Energetic Frequencies for the Aquarius Full Moon:

In Love: This lunation tempts us to reflect on patterns from our heritage, past love wounds, or cultural messaging. We are being asked to release, yet this Moon doesn’t demand untying the entire knot, it invites us to pause and contemplate the next choice, chapter, or step.

In Friendship: A theme of social belonging is activated by this Full Moon. Pluto retrograde may bring tension around betrayals or awakenings, while Mercury retrograde may stir old arguments or forgotten desires for connection. Under this lunation, we are given the energy to clean toxic relational wounds.

In Finances: We are given the reminder that thriving is an inside job. Instead of pushing forward, this is a moment to ask ourselves how we can nourish and flourish.

Spiritually: Ritual is our bridge. Ceremony our compass. We shall let this lunation be marked not by what should happen, but by what our soul is pulling us towards, next.

Reflections & Journaling Prompts:

  • What wild impulse is alive inside me, and how can I safely bring it into the world?
  • How can my devotion become most known to me?
  • In the past, when have I worn busyness as a shield? What do I know to be true about output and productivity? Is it really true, or is it grounded in habit and belief?
  • What old relational wound wants ceremonial release?
  • What next step is already clear?

Who This Full Moon Impacts Most:

  • Aquarius & Leo (Sun, Moon, Rising): A powerful time of reflection and redirection. Aquarius is redefining where and how they belong. Leo is remembering that it’s safe to take up space.
  • Aries & Libra (Sun, Moon, Rising): Relationship themes are front and centre. Aries is invited to stay open to interdependence. Libra is invited to reclaim their individuality without losing connection.
  • Taurus & Scorpio (Sun, Moon, Rising): A quieter, soulful turning point. Taurus is asked to root into what soothes and sustains. Scorpio is asked to trust the emotional clearing experienced, because it’s working even where unseen.
  • Gemini & Sagittarius (Sun, Moon, Rising): Under this lunation, Gemini is offered to write  down channelled insight, while Sagittarius shall speak truth, even if it’s only to themselves, for now.
  • Everyone else will feel subtle shifts where these signs land in your chart. It’s important to pay attention to where clarity, release, and renewal are appearing.

Aquarius Full Moon Ritual:

A ritual can be a fun way to connect with cosmic energy, while it is not required, it can offer such a luscious way to connect with ourselves and the themes of this energetic event.

Here is a simple ritual you might want to try, feel free to adjust it as you are inspired to:

Materials Needed:

– A quiet, undisturbed space
– White or silver candle
– Small hand-held mirror
– Bowl filled with water
– Fresh or dried violet blossoms (or purple flowers, even arts & crafts ones)
– Journal & pen

Steps:

  1. Safely light your candle. Sit comfortably. Place the mirror before you, as well as your water to your right. Scatter the violet blooms around, and then breathe deeply.
  2. Affirm: “I invite truth. I honour rebellion, devotion, sovereignty. I am home in my own light.”
  3. In the mirror, gaze into your own eyes. Allow your power and, also, your tenderness to rise within. Affirm: “I am both storm and sanctuary.”
  4. Dip your fingers into the water and gently touch your heart centre. Whisper to yourself: “I cleanse every boundary that is not mine, and every story that does not belong to my soul.”
  5. As a symbolic cleansing of your spiritual power, choose one violet, and place it into the water.
  6. Breathe deeply and then journal what came through. Any tension released? Any medicine received?
  7. Thank the space, snuff the candle, and close the ceremony in a way that feels most aligned to you.
