Full Moon in Cancer Astrology Report for January 1, 2018

January 1, 2018 (6:24pm PST)

The Full Moon in Cancer falls on the first day of the New Year! And because of this, it is the first of TWO Full Moons in January 2018.

Lunations, and all astrological events, are like songs. Every Full Moon is a culminating energy; a rising swell of harmonics. Two opposing polarities become highlighted as the Sun, symbolizing our conscious self, stands across from the Moon, our unconscious self. As the two luminaries dance in opposition, the space between them is illuminated. Things that are normally dark here on Earth can be better seen by moonlight, while the orchestral backdrop of the stars beyond our midst is lost to the prevailing glow of the moon. Her light emanates as a resplendent chord and revelation. A seeing-the-unseen. A feeling-the-unfelt. A beginning of another end; a movement towards completion.

The theme of this moon is “Cloister.” To be cloistered is to be protected or shielded in a space of refuge or retreat. We may be embracing a true hibernation this year. After a year of fire-and-air momentum, the tides are changing and settling into water-and-earth. We may feel like gathering kin close and hunkering into a hermitage.

The Moon, our memory-keeper, is in her home sign of Cancer. She reflects the gaze of Sun in Capricorn.

This is the axis of the zodiac that rules parenting and preservation. Moon in Cancer is the archetypal Mother, the listener, the homemaker and the healer. She wants her babies to be safe under her wing and in her nest. She wants to nurture and nourish them, and to see to it that all of their needs get met.

Cancer Moon is historically-oriented, moody, and sentimental. We can feel extra sensitive, so let this be a time of self-care. Make space for your emotions today. Feel all the feels. Meet your needs as if you were your own child. Make yourself cozy and cared for. Give yourself comfort and pillows and yummy beverages and plenty of snacks.

Embrace history. Take a trip down memory lane. Look at photographs and gifts from the past. Reflect on what’s grown up alongside the path of time. Honor your lineage, whether by blood or by spirit, and anchor more deeply into relationship with your familiars.

Cancer is so sensitive that its feels can run extra high. It tries to protect itself by putting up walls and creating a hard shell to live within. Take care of yourself as you need to, but don’t shut the love out. Home is where the heart is. Remind yourself that you belong here, now. When you nourish your own inner potential, all will be well in the safe space of self in which you dwell.

This moon is positioned at the tail end of a Kite formation in the sky; a grand water trine funneling its energy into the planets transiting Capricorn. While emotions and sensitivity may run high during this moon, the lesson is about increasing your wisdom, patience, and self-management. Avoid being hard on yourself and others. Instead, decide what strategies and boundaries can help everyone get their needs met.

The Sun, Venus, and Lilith are conjunct in Capricorn. Revelations come forth about relationships, love, money, appearances, values, and resources. What feels important to solidify and crystallize in these areas? What’s the money story in your lineage? Are your relationships built on mutual empowerment and respect? If you are in a relationship, your commitments can be tested and deepened. If you are seeking a partner, today may highlight the ways we tend to hold ourselves apart from what we want. Most conflicts can be resolved through increasing love; especially self-love.

Mars is conjunct Jupiter and Vesta in Scorpio and still within orb of a trine to Neptune. Motivations and desires are heightened, deepened, and expanded. Inner wells are broad and fathomless. Plunge into inner depths. Sex can be intensely intimate and metamorphic. There are spiritual influences at work. Allow yourself to be moved. Gentleness and focus are powerful.

This moon has a distinctly feminine feel. More than the Mother archetype; the maiden and Crone are both present, as well as the oft-disowned feminine spirit who is wild, untamed, and refuses to be dominated by external powers. Invoke the triple Goddess today. Consult your inner Crone for crystal clarity, fortified confidence, and firm support. Feed and love yourself well. Lean into the wisdom you keep in your bones.

Mercury is traveling Direct now, and will clear its shadow January 10th. Saturn transitioned into Capricorn last month and will remain there for the next 3 years. Aries: I remain motivated and stay the course in developing a structure for my life.

Sometimes for Aries, “responsibility” and “patience” can sound like dirty words. But increased responsibilities don’t automatically make you old and boring. Trust – someone like you will never lose the fierce zest you have for life. Like aging fine wine, practicing patience will only make you better. Responsibilities you take on now will help fortify your foundations. Get yourself a steady place to call home. Notice what your needs are in terms of profession. Make commitments that could eventually turn into a career. The more solid the ground is under your feet, the faster you’ll be able to run and blaze your torch into new arenas of leadership.

Taurus: I live my bliss and offer my creative light to the community.

This is a supportive moon for drawing allies close. Surround yourself with community that encourages your uniqueness. Be enamored by the special gifts each of your accomplices possesses and expresses. If you haven’t yet found the folks that feel like yours, this is a great time to go out and call them in. Like moths to a flame, they find you when you live your joy. Has something been weighing you down as of late? What would it feel like to simply release whatever stands between you and your happiness? Commit to your creativity and happiness. Pleasure is a worthy investment.

Gemini: I rest and recuperate to support my health and my work in the world.

Relax and soften. Retreat. Take private time away from other people and go into silence. The feels you are feeling now may not be things you can verbalize or articulate. Meditate, rest, and unwind. It’s important to take breaks from thinking, talking, and jumping from one distraction to the next. Healing occurs in the space between the thoughts. Observe that space. An old lifestyle is coming to a close. Something underneath habitual patterns is unraveling. Allow yourself to be undone. Reset your schedule. Square meals a day and regular exercise are acts of self-love. Organize your New Year routine to be in service to your highest health.

Cancer: I tend myself and allow myself to be nurtured as much as I nurture others.

Other people in your life are in the spotlight, taking precedence and priority. So often you are the caretaker. While this is a delightful role, take a moment to reflect: What are your own personal needs? Are they getting met? Do you feel a sense of belonging in your own skin? While the external environment is important, the real home lies within your sense of self. To feel most at home, nourish yourself. Breathe in, “I am home.” Breathe out, “I belong.” The more you feel cared for, the better the love you will be able to provide your family and kin.

Leo: I am worthy. My worth affirms your worth, and together, we are abundant.

Get back to the basics. Look to the root. Attachments, resources, finances, and core values are coming to the fore. Are you in a place of comfort and stability? If power issues have been arising as of late, this moon offers a chance to view some of your basic underlying insecurities. Everybody has them. This is an opportunity to further evolve them. A lot of our “stuff” around money and worthiness isn’t even ours – it’s been passed down through generations. Whatever “stuff” gets uncovered now, be willing to be present with it. Hold it with acceptance. Shine the light of your noble heart on it. Offer it generosity of spirit, and watch it transform before your eyes. Because you’re worth it.

Virgo: I allow curiosity to lead me to new paths of learning and improvement.

Ah, the learning journey. Virgo understands that all of life is a process. Sometimes we get in a rut and life becomes swallowed by errands and mundane tasks. When we get too close to the work being done on the ground, we can become restless and longing for new horizons. If we have been in the same rhythm for quite some time, it may be becoming clear that we need to keep learning if we are going to stoke our interests. Virgo has a desire to constantly hone and improve their skills. To become more useful and be of greater service. There is a part of you that is restless, curious, eternally a student. An appetite for knowledge that wants to be whet. What do you want to learn next in the school of life?

Libra: I attend my inner life and homefront to cultivate balance.

Are you in the state of balance that you crave? Mediate your emotions and your pragmatic mind; they are both offering indicators that can help you reach more peace and harmony. Responsibilities in the public sector could be taking away from real needs at home. Place some emphasis on your personal life during this moon. Family, property, ancestry, and homefront could require some attention. When you meet your own inner emotional needs, you will more easily be able to approach the demands of your public life and career.

Scorpio: I am the manifest Divine laughing and playing for the sake of being alive.

You have been getting quite a cosmic boost as of late! Ever since Jupiter entered your sign in October, and Mars entered it December 9th, the powers-that-be have been lighting the fires of expansion and evolution beneath you. Evolving is not always fun or pretty. It requires rigorous honesty and the uncovering of long-buried truths. During this Full Moon, lighten up. Take a load off. Have some fun for fun’s sake. Play. Be creative. Go to a wine and paint night with friends. Let laughter and color soothe your soul.

Sagittarius: I give myself the gift of rest and release, completing the work of the last 3 years.

Restless one! Ye who burns candles at both ends! Weary traveler. After long journeys like your last 3 years, it is recommended to find rhythm. Practice a regular schedule. Attend to your health. You have traveled to far reaches and encountered many stories, views, and people along the way. It has likely been stressful. Find your spiritual center within. Make space and time to take it all in. Our bodies can heal; it is typically a matter of digestion. Rest and digest. Absorb and assimilate the nutrients from all the lived experiences you’ve traversed of late.

Capricorn: I care about the people in my life and prioritize connection.

The benefit of working on ourselves is that we get to reap the rewards of that work in our relationships. Capricorn, you are no stranger to hard work. However, emotions and sentiment might be less comfortable for you. This moon may bring up feelings for and by other people in your life. Someone close to you may be experiencing insecurities. Their feelings and behaviors may seem irrational or unrealistic. Embrace them anyway. Find a way to connect and let your relating be mutually supportive. Make it your business to see to it that your friends and lovers get their needs met.

Aquarius: I let go and allow life to flow because I am one with change.

As radical as you may be, Aquarius, you are often stubbornly resistant to change. This moon indicates the kinds of change that are inevitable. The changes we don’t choose but we have the choice to surrender to. Are you surrendering, now? You are a wonderful observer. Sometimes keeping ourselves in the role of the witness can help us avoid unnecessary pain. But no matter how strong our ideologies, we as humans are not immune to the need to repay debts. The requirement of being changed by change itself. You are a great inventor and re-inventor. Practice your skills of adaptation.

Pisces: I seek for my dreams to reach new heights.

Soul-adventurer. That’s your key characteristic this Full Moon. Your dreams and inspirations want to reach new heights. Use your inner eye. Logic and intellect can only get you so far. The visionary, the ritual, and the faith-based will take your further. What territories are yet to be discovered? Go outside on a quest. Seek answers and insight. Take a pilgrimage. Embody your visions. Broaden your horizons. Let the meditative and journey space teach you. Do this with friends, siblings, and neighbors. Together, you can divine more about the true nature of being.
